To maintain our body’s with Ayurveda, we must understand how to balance our doshas. When our doshas are out of balance, we experience a variety of health and mental problems. Each dosha requires a different, unique approach.
When our Vata is out of balance, exercise can bring stability and grounding. Creating a rigid morning and evening exercise routine will help bring balance. Meditating while connected to earth will help us get grounded. Limit the use of technology to feel more connected to the earth and universe. Eating foods with more protein and fats along with warm foods will also help us achieve balance. Drinking warm, creamy drinks can be grounding, along with eating a variety of meats and root vegetables. It’s very important to stay hydrated because of dry skin.
When our pitta is out of balance, we tend to be angry, burnt out, and over exert ourselves. Skin irritation and rashes can occur when we are out of balance. We can benefit from cooling activities like taking a cool shower and walking on the beach or around a lake. It’s important to loosen tight schedules to reduce stress. People with pitta must avoid hot and spicy foods. Especially in the summer months. Coconut water, sweet fruits, and plenty of grains will help balance our pitta.
When our Kapha is out of balance, we are in need of mental stimulation, lots of exercise, and mindful activities like breath-work and meditation. People with dominant kapha need to avoid oily foods and heavy carbs like pasta and rice. Bitter, astringent ingredients are recommended. Eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
